Antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of Staphylococcus spp. from domestic and wild animals Ciência Rural
Godoy,Isabela de; Moraes,Danny Franciele da Silva Dias; Pitchenin,Letícia Camara; Rosa,Janaina Marcela Assunção; Kagueyama,Francielle Cristina; Silva,Aline de Jesus da; Dutra,Valéria; Nakazato,Luciano.
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and diversity of veterinary clinical isolates of Staphylococcus and analyze their antimicrobial susceptibility. One hundred Staphylococcus spp. clinical isolates from domestic and wild animals were subjected to partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene to species determination. Antimicrobial susceptibility was obtained by a disk diffusion test against six antibiotics: amoxicillin (AMX), cephalexin (LEX), ciprofloxacin (CIP), erythromycin (ERY), gentamicin (GEN) and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (SXT). The most common specie was S. pseudintermedius (61%, 61/100) and resistance to ERY (57%, 57/100), SXT (50%, 50/100) and AMX (46%, 46/100) was detected most frequently. In total, 40% (40/100) of...

Detection of Toxoplasma gondii in a free-ranging giant anteater Ciência Rural
Morgado,Thais Oliveira; Kagueyama,Francielle Cristina; Rosa,Janaina Marcela Assunção; Belizário,Melissa Debesa; Pacheco,Richard de Campos; Dutra,Valéria; Corrêa,Sandra Helena Ramiro; Paz,Regina Celia Rodrigues da.
ABSTRACT: Toxoplasmosis is caused by Toxoplasma gondii, an obligatory intracellular protozoan, which establishes acute and chronic infections in birds and mammals, including humans. This note reports, for the first time, the detection and sequencing of DNA from T. gondii in the peripheral blood of a young free range giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla). For the diagnosis, the following methods were used: polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and positive serology (1:800) by means of the modified agglutination test (MAT). Since this species may be consumed by humans and predated by wild felids, its importance is emphasized as a probable source of zoonotic infection, in addition to its possible participation in the infection enzootic cycle. Although,...

Molecular characterization of Pasteurella multocida isolates from swine lungs by Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA Ciência Rural
Chitarra,Cristiane Silva; Silva,Mayara Inácio Vincenzi da; Brandão,Laila Natasha Santos; Kagueyama,Francielle Cristina; Candido,Stefhano Luis; Rosa,Janaina Marcela Assunção; Nakazato,Luciano; Dutra,Valéria.
ABSTRACT: Swine respiratory diseases such as atrophic rhinitis and bronchopneumonia caused by Pasteurella (P.) multocida cause important economic losses to the modern swine industry. The purpose of this study was to characterize P. multocida strains isolated from swine lungs by RAPD (Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA) to demonstrate their genetic diversity. Ninety-four samples of fragments from lungs with pneumonia and sixty one samples without pneumonia were collected in slaughterhouses in Mato Grosso during the period from December 2009 to March 2010. Clinical cases in 2012 and 2013 were also included in this study. Among the lung fragments with macroscopic lesions, without macroscopic lesions and clinical samples, 40.42%, 4.49% and 100% were positive...
